Information Security

The information security can be defined as the protection of critical elements around the information which includes the hardware and software associated with the acquisition, storage, transmission and manipulation of information. Now why is this information security so important today?
Today organizations do business more with its information and the knowledge it possess in its domain. This information when revealed may affect the competitive advantage of the organization in the market. Sometimes when the operation procedures and strategies of the organization are revealed in public may cause a greater liability to the organization’s public image. So how does this information possess that much of value in it?
There are some factors or features associated with the information that makes it valuable. This is explained by the CIA triangle. The C stands for Confidentiality. I stands for Integrity and A stands for Availability. So from a wider perspective of what actually adds value to information these three forms the basis. However these three can be expanded and dug into to obtain other factors that add value to the information. The expansion is provided in the next post. All of them together make information valuable for business. It also justifies why you must protect the information.
